Key suspect in Toyan death survives mob justice in Kotido

Kotido RDC told this publication that two suspects are now in the police custody.

Kotido -February 15, 2022: Police in Kotido have Tuesday rescued a man suspected to have participated in the killing of Peter Toyan, a renowned businessman in Kotido town.

The mob from Lopedur in Kotido municipality flooded on the suspect at around 9:30 am after they spotted him with a belt suspected to belong to the deceased.

The angry mob soon started throwing stones at him, beating him with sticks: some were cutting his body parts with sharp objects.

Police immediately came and rushed him to Kotido General Hospital in a bad state.

By the time Our Reporter visited the hospital, a few minutes after his rescue, he was handcuffed while
undergoing treatment.

In an interview with this contemporary newspaper, Kotido Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Ambrose Onoria, said there are already two suspects in police custody linked with Toyan’s death.

The first one was tracked through phone conversations, he said.

The names of the suspects have, however, been withheld for fear of jeopardizing the police investigations.

The 48-year-old Peter Toyan was shot dead by unknown gunmen as he rode from Kotido town back to his home in Panyangara on Friday, February 11, 2022, at around 7 pm.
