Toyan becomes the latest victim of gun violence that has left many families mourning in Kotido and other parts of Karamoja in recent months.

Kotido – February 13, 2022: The Karamoja community has lost yet another member to gun violence.
The 48-year-old Peter Toyan, a renowned businessman was shot dead by unknown gunmen as he rode from Kotido town back to his home in Panyangara.
He died a few meters from Panyangara trading center where the gunmen had laid an ambush at around half past seven pm, Friday.
Toyan becomes the latest victim of gun violence that has left many families mourning in Kotido and other parts of Karamoja in recent months.
A few days ago, an attack at the home of Apakubein Kanawat claimed the lives of two children.
One medical personnel was also shot and killed late last year in Panyangara in what is quickly becoming “a trend in Kotido” where gunshots are heard almost daily.
The Kotido RDC Ambrose Onoria said they are soon convening a meeting to change the strategies of addressing the ongoing killings.
“We have arrested over 40 people suspected to be involved in the ongoing killings in the past 2 months,” RDC told TND News Hope Ochero.
Charles Alir, the Chairperson of the Kotido Business Forum said they are saddened by the death of Toyan whom he described as “a peaceful and hardworking member of the business community”.
