UPC’s doors open for EALA race

UPC have more than four people interested in EALA and TND News understands that two are former MPs from Lango sub-region.


Kampala – February 2, 2022: Uganda People Congress (UPC) party say the doors will open from tomorrow (Thursday) for aspirants for the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) to pick nomination forms.

The regional legislative assembly has representatives from member countries in East Africa.

Article 49 of the East African Community Treaty stipulates that, “The responsibilities of the East African Legislative Assembly are to be the legislative organ of the Community, liaise with the National Assemblies of the Partner States on matters relating to the Community….”

On Wednesday, UPC said picking of nomination forms for aspirants to participate in the EALA Parliament has been opened.

This exercise will start on 3rd and close on 8th February 2022 as dates for collection and return of the nomination forms.

The Assistant Secretary General Bakkabulindi Ben Kigongo will be in charge of the exercise, according to UPC party spokesperson, Arach Oyat Sharon.

“Upon submission of the nomination form the candidate must attached among other supporting documents an original cash receipt of a non refundable nomination fee of Uganda shillings 1,000,000.00..” she added.

Ahead of nomination forms picking, TND News understands that Ogwang Calvin, UPC Secretary General and former Kole South MP, Fred Ebil Ebil, Humphrey Ojok Anok and Joy Atim Ongom (former Lira district Woman MP) have shown interests in EALA.
