The suspect now in detention in Zombo is to undergo a psychiatry examination and interrogation – according to a Police officer.
Paidha, Zombo – January 8, 2022: Territorial Police in the West Nile’s district of Zombo has in custody a 28-year-old man identified as Bidong Miraj Muhammad.
Bidong is alleged to have murdered his son of only four years by hanging.
“Today at 1312hrs, a report of suspected murder by hanging of Maisha Fahad, a child of 4 years by her father, a resident of Theyaokaya cell, Ndwonga ward, Paidha town council in Zombo district, was received from Opoka William, Vice-chairman LC 1,” Police report the publication has seen reads in part.
The report further says the crime occurred on the night of 5th/6th Jan 2022 in the suspect’s house at the above address.
Brief facts
Police preliminary finding reveals that the suspect is a known person of occasional unsound mind. As such, he has been having domestic misunderstandings that prompted the wife to leave, leaving behind her two children.
On a fateful day, the suspect was seen moving around with the deceased. His other child was with her aunt at her home. It is not known what time the suspect returned with the deceased.
“Today (yesterday) at around 11 am, the suspect’s door was still locked. That was unusual and it prompted the neighbors to check and force it open. Inside the house, the deceased was seen dead and hanging on a rope, while the suspect wasn’t inside.”

“That made the neighbours suspicious that the suspect could have murdered his son. They reported to the LC, vice-chairman who in turn reported to the police.”
Action taken
Police in Zombo says the report was registered and investigations commenced under the case file reference: Murder vide Zombo CRB 12/2022.
The crime scene was visited by the Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO), a team of other detectives and uniformed personnel. The crime scene was accordingly documented. Some witnesses were interviewed.
Charles Twiine, PRO of the Criminal Investigations Directorate of the Uganda Police tells TND News the suspect was arrested and is now in detention.
He is to undergo a psychiatry examination and interrogation.
“The deceased’s body was taken to Paidha Health Centre III for postmortem and the postmortem report is awaited.”
“Inquiries are still ongoing to establish whether the incident was an act of premeditated murder or murder with diminished responsibility.”

According to 87.8 Paidha FM, quoting the OC CID Zombo district, Deputy ASP Wanzala Alex Paul, leading crimes in 2021 were common assaults, domestic violence, defilement, threatening violence, obtaining money by false pretence, criminal trespass, malicious damage to property; thefts of cash, child neglect, aggravated assaults and simple robberies.
