1.4 million tourists visited Tanzania in 2021 – says Suluhu

Unlike Tanzania, in Uganda, tourist arrivals were estimated at 1,250,000 by the end of 2021.


Kampala – January 2, 2022: Tanzanian President Hassan Samia Suluhu said 1.4million tourists visited their country in 2021 amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

The East African female President said on Friday, December 31, 2021, in her end of the year and New Year address.

According to her, only 620,867 tourists visited Tanzania in 2020. 2021 saw an increase of 779,133 tourists.

“Our expectation are that tourism industry will continue to flourish in 2022 and beyond,” she said as quoted by Xinhua news agency.

Uganda         

In Uganda, tourist arrivals were estimated at 1,250,000 by the end of 2021. “In the long term, the Uganda tourist arrivals is projected to trend around 1,400,000 in 2022,” according to Trading Economics.

Trading Economics also noted that arrivals in Uganda decreased to 473,000  in 2020 from 1,543,000 in 2019.

With dozens of exciting travel destinations in Uganda, the Covid-19 pandemic and several lockdowns affected the country’s tourism sector.
