Mbale—3, December 2021: Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS) on Friday handed over relief items worth millions of shillings to households in Eastern Uganda.
The beneficiaries are those affected by recent disasters like flooding that rocked Mt. Elgon areas
“200 families receive relief support after the recent disasters within the district. With funding from Disaster Relief Emergence Fund (DREF), areas around Mt. Elgon in Eastern Uganda have received help the meets their needs,” URCS says.
The Society also says 200 households in Sironko district recently affected by disasters have received relief nonfood items as support to enable them develop coping mechanism.
“We delivered through Sironko branch network, Sironko district leadership through Disaster Relief Emergence Fund and International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in Africa.”
Last year, reliefweb reported that 2,000 families were in fear as “Mt. Elgon cracks again”.
It added: “About 2,000 families living in eight sub-counties, Bududa district, on the slopes of Mt. Elgon faces an uncertain future after cracks were spotted on the mountain. Recently, heavy rains have been pounding the region.”
