Oyam – 28, October 2021: The discrimination of science teachers against their fellow arts teachers is an insult to the teaching proffession and the entire education system of Uganda.

When I first heard the story about attempts by government to increase the salary of science teachers at the expense of their colleagues, it sounded just like a joke.

Sooner than later, it became a reality to me that, President Museveni was serious and determined to make another deliberate error in further dismantling the education system in Uganda.

President Museveni as a leader of the country has been gradually creating bitter division in every corner of life, politics, religion, cultural institutions: to create a platform for ruling a divided nation.

And now, he has finally succeeded to “hit the final nail on the coffin of the education sector in Uganda. I am really intrigued by the decision to pay science teachers more money than their arts counterparts.

Being a son of a teacher who went to school and love the way my teachers loved me for being brilliant in both arts and sciences, I am feeling very frustrated by the Museveni’s decision. I have just not got the rationale.

Whether Museveni wanted to politicise everything, he should have considered education and health sectors.

It is pathetic to imagine that arts teachers who never discriminated the pupils and students on the basis of their inherent talents and choice of course or subjects are being penalized by a regime that lacks common sense and integrity.

This brings back the debate around the appointment of Mama Janet Kataha Museveni (whom I admire as a humble mother) as Minister of Education supervised by her husband, President Museveni. It is a mistake and a deliberate attempt to destroy education and humiliate those who considers themselves educated.

Infact, the so-called academia are now fully under attack by Museveni.

After realizing that, all the sectors of economy and life is not jeopardized, the President had now gone for a final assault, first to create a permanent division among teachers, and secondly to frustrate further the already despised and deprived teachers.

As a son of a teacher who studied both sciences and arts, it would be a betrayal to watch my father go into the grave with bitterness over the demise of education in Uganda, while I watch and enjoy together the humiliation and shameless discrimination of the teachers.

Where on earth would you find only science teachers paid well than arts? Should we now abandon all these?

I am forced to think that President Museveni who I admire his style of consolidating the State, is becoming senile and exhausted to reason beyond certain scope.

I am equally wondering whether President Museveni runs a Cabinet that discusses a government whitepaper as it is a practice in governance.

Because if a Cabinet can sit, discuss and agree that teachers should be discriminated against their line of profession, then Museveni’s Cabinet deserves being thrown into the washroom.

What kind of a government Cabinet would discuss, find sense in allowing the removal of a bail and discrimination of teachers on the basis of the subject they teach? Very useless indeed!

Discriminating arts teachers from their fellow science teachers is meaning that there will be a demoralized arts teachers who will teach a very useless future lawyers and economists.

Museveni would have therefore concluded his conspiracy against the future of Ugandans who are dependent on the young generation of professionals that we prepare.

What a crime against humanity?Denying someone bail and discrimination of teachers should cause the immediate cause to stop Museveni from continuing to divide and destroy our Country.

A Ugandan cannot discriminate fellow citizens in all areas and feel comfortable presiding over the State and I am now wondering where Mr. Museveni comes from!

The crises in education goes together with the sampling of humanity rights being ushered in by President Museveni to victimize Ugandans.

However, for the sake of my teachers, fellow students and the future of our children, no one should sit down and allow Museveni to continue fooling the countrymen and women. He should be condemned and isolated. Enough is Enough! Time Up, Out; Kare Okato Ooko.
