Lira – 28, October 2021: Bad roads networks across Lango sub region is one of the major concerns for nearly two decades.

Some of the major roads like Lira-Kamdini highway, Apac-Lira have claimed lives, including damages to vehicles and motorcycles.

For Lira-Kamdini, it is an important road, linking regional (cargo) trucks from Kenya to South Sudan, Sudan, DRC, among other regional countries.

With its importance, the highway is in bad shape and ‘highly potholed’ until few months ago when partial rehabilitation started.

In a move to stop the problem and ensure better transportation of people and their goods, leaders from the sub region met with Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) few weeks ago.

The meeting was to get answers from the authority (government) on its plan to rehabilitate and tarmac major roads.

Now, on Thursday, LPG and the UNRA’s Executive Director, Allen Kagina and her team, including those from the Ministry of Works and Transport commenced a two-day field visits on Lango roads.

“Today’s programme will cover Amolatar, Dokolo, Alebtong, Otuke and Lira districts,” Dr. Samuel Opio Acuti, the LPG Secretary General said.

He adds that the tour will cover Dokolo-Ochero-Namasale and Lira-Aloi-Abim Roads earmarked for upgrade to tarmac in the next 5 years.

“It will also cover selected district roads for upgrade to national roads and several flooded road sections and bridges in need of UNRA interventions,” Dr. Opio who doubles as the Kole North MP, says.

“….the team is crossing into Amolatar to meet other MPs for the inspection of roads in Lango subregion,” UNRA said via Twitter, Thursday morning.
