Kampala 22, October 2021: High Court in Mubende district has nullified the election of Joyce Bagala Ntwatwa who until the judgement was the Mityana district Woman MP.

The nullification followed an election petition by Judith Nabakooba, the current minister of lands, housing and urban development.

Bagala doubles as the minister of information and Anti-corruption in the leader of opposition’s cabinet.

The judge has ordered for a by-elections.

National Unity Platform (NUP) party say they stand in solidarity with their member.

As reported by The Observer in August this year, Nabakooba told court that there was no evidence to show “but I know Bagala bribed voters”. She also told court that the election was not transparent.

Bagala was announced winner of the January 14 election with 16,000 votes. However, later, Nabakooba alledged that she was not validly elected to replace her.

She (Nabakooba) accused the electoral commission of failing to offer a secured condition necessary for “free and fair elections”.
