The unidentified suspect was stoned to death by an angry mob at the home of one William Engwedu, the LC1 secretary of the same village.

The deceased believed to be in his early 20s, allegedly stole a brand new numberless Bajaj motorcycle from Soroti central market.

Police efforts to save his life saved did not yield results as confirmed by Oscar Ageca, the East Kyoga Police spokesperson.

“I can confirm that one man has been killed in Opiyai ward, Soroti East division. It’s unfortunate that our officers reached at the scene a little late therefore, we could not save his life,” said Ageca.

“We shall later make a follow up to find out details of his origin as he lies in the mortuary,” Ageca added.

Some of the residents who preferred anonymity while speaking to our reporter at the scene of crime narrated the course of this tragic incident saying, the deceased was chased all the way from town before he landed on his 40th day.

“That man picked somebody’s motorcycle from the main market and rode off but boda bodas quickly responded to the owner’s alarm and started chasing him up to hear where he was eventually killed,” an eyewitness said.

Some locals in the area attest that last year, the same incident happened in the same village. They say, with a warning that they will continue killing anyone caught in the act without mercy.
