Lira – 15, October 2021: The former Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Daniel Omara Atubo is recruiting new beneficiaries said to have lost their animals during the Karamojong invasion.

More than 30 years ago, various households lost their cattle to the warriors and there is now attempts to make government compensate them.

Apparently, government, through the Office of the Attorney General has put aside shs50billion to pilot the compensation of 42,042 people in Lango.

Also, recently while meeting Members of Parliament from Lango, Jackson Kafuzi who is the Deputy Attorney General revealed that out of the 42,042 claimants, only 18,000 are to be compensated in round one.

Surprisingly, the numbers of claimants to benefit from has not gone well with Daniel Omara Atubo, who says there are still thousands of people who lost their cows.

“I am surprised to see their names missing from the list,” he adds.

The former Otuke County MP for decades is now taking charge of his legal profession. A renowned lawyer in Lira City, Atubo has now come out to start a fresh registration of people who never registered with any other groups.

There are two groups in Lango that took government to Court demanding for compensation of the lost animals and were awarded costs.

The two groups include that of Akello Betty and Linda Agnes Auma (now Woman MP Lira district) represented by Lawyer Alex Bassahsa and another, Lango War Claimants Association represented by Adam Makmot Kibwanga of Makmot Kibwanga and Company Advocates.

However, Daniel Omara Atubo adds that his new group is not in anyway going to affect the already established groups.

“My feeling is that all those who lost their animals in Lango gets what is due for them because government failed to protect people and their animals,” he said

According to Atubo, his activity of fresh registration is already known by government.

He appeals to security and other leaders to support his move since it is going to benefit the local community who lost their cows in the hand of Karamojong cattle rustlers.
