Museveni’s speech during Uganda’s 59th anniversary

 Kampala—9, October 2021: Uganda is 59 years old today. For nearly six decades, the East African country has shouldered through a number of issues, both affecting her economy and democratic practices. For the latter, a single president—Gen Yoweri Kaguta T. Museveni has ruled the country since 1986.

Out of 59 years of self-rule, 35 have been under Museveni—and there is no doubt he’s eying more years at the helm after this term officially expired in 2026.

Museveni’s reelection victory in 2021 came through, after trouncing other presidential candidates, prominent among was Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine.

Back to the 59th anniversary, President Museveni told the country Saturday that amid Covid-19 pandemic, Uganda’s economy grew by 3.4% in the last fiscal year, projecting a bigger percentage growth in the coming year.

“In the past two years (2020 & 2021) the new Uganda has shown that it can stand on its feet and defeat any challenge,” Museveni said, before his official speech later in the day.
