Lira—6, October 2021: Covid-19 pandemic has affected major sectors of global economies, with almost all governments across the globe putting up stringent measures to help contain the deadly virus.
In Uganda, the government has put dozens of measures in place since March 2021. Some of the measures are curfew, banning social gatherings (some have since been lifted), closure of lower and secondary schools, among others.
Looking at tomorrow now, if we do not manage the pandemic well, the future of the current generation, most of whom youth might be in darkness.
“It is important we help the youth now so that tomorrow, even with the pandemic still alive, they can survive. To achieve this, different institutions, stakeholders must come out to support various government initiatives aimed at elevating youth,” Milton Emmy Akwam, Executive Director, Great Lakes Centre for Strategic Media Studies (GLCSMS).
Akwam Wednesday spoke ahead of the Global Forum for Development (GLOFORD) city hall dialogue on Thursday in Lira city.
“Dialogue, dialogue. Youth and Covid-19 response, recovery and resilience tomorrow city hall…” GLOFORD tweeted Wednesday afternoon.
According to GLOFORD, the dialogue is implemented in partnership with the German development cooperation (GIZ Uganda).
The European Union in Uganda and the Federal Republic of Germany are the funding partners.
