Uganda coffee tasting and cupping competition—Amb Moto’s message

London, United Kingdom—28, September 2021: I am pleased that Uganda High Commission in London is partnering with Uganda Coffee Development Authority, the British High Commission in Kampala and various Uganda Coffee processors in efforts to promote exports of processed coffee to the United Kingdom, through the upcoming coffee tasting/cupping competition event scheduled for 27th October 2021 at WeRoast, Unit 19 Newington Industrial Estate, 87 Crampton street, London, SE17 3AZ from 12:00 O’clock UK time.
This is in line with Uganda Vision 2040 that focuses on value addition for exports, hence more jobs and incomes for Ugandans in the value chain.
As you may know, Uganda is the second largest producer of coffee in Africa and currently ranks 7th in the World. This therefore means that there is ready to supply, which needs value addition through processing for exports, thus earning the country more Foreign Exchange and better prices for the producers.
The United Kingdom imports nearly $1 billion worth of coffee annually, which makes it an attractive market for high-quality coffee Uganda proposes to partake in this market share.
Indeed, few Uganda companies are already exporting high-quality coffee to the United Kingdom, it is our expectation that through the media publicity that will be generated from this event which will be simultaneously held in Kampala and London, the awareness among the coffee consumers in the United Kingdom about the quality of Uganda coffee will be amplified.
A marketing strategy will follow this to get Uganda Coffee on to the UK market, coffee shops and supermarkets.
With the planned commencement of direct flights between Entebbe International Airport and London Heathrow by Uganda Airlines around November 2021, we expect trade volumes between the two countries to increase on account of reduced cargo costs, hence making Uganda’s exports to the UK more competitive.
