Akello notes Uganda has remained one of the most stable countries on the continent because of the able leadership under the NRM government, which opened a political space for the citizens.

“Uganda has great potentials in tourism, agro-processing industry, pharmaceuticals, cottage industry and ICT, among others that you can take advantage and invest…” Akello told Indian tycoons.

She pointed out that investors from across the developed economies have established outlets in Uganda because of a vibrant security network coupled with an independent judicial system and democracy.

The ambassador made the assurance during a visit to SRI Pharmaceutical and Research Center at Vadasma in Mehsana district of Gujarat, India, where she got impressed with the high level of commitment and professionalism at the facility.

SRI Pharmaceuticals and Research Center is a privately run company incorporated in 2019. Its sole aim is adding value to the Indian economy through research and manufacture of medicines.

Akello was taken through a guided tour of the facility by the managing trustee director Dr Rao Bharot. The ambassador used the occasion to rally Indian investors to come to Uganda.

“It’s Uganda’s policy that it fully opened the door to our country to welcome development partners like you so that we can build factories to add value and offer employment opportunities…” the ambassador said.

She also commended Miraj Barot, an international investor with many business outlets in both India and Uganda through their conglomerate Tirupati Development Uganda Limited located in Kyebando near Kampala.

Barot who is currently trapped in New Delhi following travel ban by Uganda over the deepening COVID-19 pandemic says plans are underway on the possible partnership that can benefit both students and pharmaceutical industries in India and Uganda.

“We are optimistic that this initiative will go along way to boost skills and technology between key players in the two sister countries where we have always enjoyed cordial relationship,” he added.

Barot recently expanded his business acumen by setting up a 100 bed Ayurvedic Hospital and College plus manufacturing of generic medicines using the newly established pharmaceutical and research center.
