“North Kyoga is relatively calm but with many murder cases,” ASP Patrick Okema.
Lira – 25, June 2021: The deceased, Licinia Akirapa, was 30 by the time she was murdered.
Police in North Kyoga Region (Lira City) has arrested Aweri Boniface, 29, following the murder of his wife.
They are both residents of Ireda shamba cell, Ireda West Ward, Lira City East division.
“Aweri Boniface male adult aged 29 years old Lango by tribe, a teacher at Kiryandongo high school and a resident of Ireda shamba cell, Ireda West Ward Lira City East division,” ASP Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga Region Police spokesperson told media, Friday.
He (Okema) identifies the deceased as Akirapa Licinia, female adult aged 30 years old; Lango by tribe, a community paralegal with Human Rights Awareness and Promotion.
Suspect
Aweri Boniface reported the case of suicide by the deceased, but when the scene of crime was visited, it was discovered that it was not suicide.
“The body was found lying down under the mango tree with rope on her neck,” reveals Okema.
The incident took place on Thursday, 24 June 2021.
According to one of the deceased’s children, the parents had a quarrel at night about issues of money and there was a fight between the two; the deceased was blaming the suspect of withdrawing her money from the bank.
Police action
The North Kyoga Police spokesperson, Okema says they have made the following actions:
- Case file opened at Ireda shamba police post vide 02/24/06/2021 and Lira CRB 704/2021.
- Scene of crime visited by Soco together with homicide team and other detectives.
Suspect arrested.
- The deceased body taken to Lira Referral hospital mortuary pending postmortem.
- Statements recorded from witnesses.
