Uganda now has 52,935 covid-19 cases, 383 deaths and a total of 47,760 recoveries according to the Ministry of Health records.
Kampala—6, June 2021: On Sunday night president Museveni addressed the country, issuing “new covid-19” preventive measures as virus cases surge in recent weeks.
Uganda now has 52,935 covid-19 cases, 383 deaths and a total of 47,760 recoveries according to the Ministry of Health records.
The country recorded the highest cases of infections in recent weeks, forcing government to come up with new lockdown to help contain the virus. President issued these new measures on Sunday Museveni.
Mr. Museveni, now 78 years old, told the country that Covid-19 prevention is everyone’s responsibility, adding that anybody who faults the imposed guidelines will be made to pay money as a fine.
Below is a summary of new guidelines.
- All schools to schools for 42 days effective tomorrow (Monday 7, June 2021) by 8am.
- All teachers must be vaccinated before they enter school premises.
- Communal prayers are banned for 42 days. Online prayers are encouraged.
- Public or cultural gathering is suspended for 42 days with the exception of cabinet meetings after thorough screening.
- Travel from category A country is suspended (India).
- Agricultural activities to continue because they don’t encourage crowding.
- Non-agricultural activities allowed to continue are factories, malls, supermarkets with strict adherence to the Ministry of Health guidelines.
- Gathering points such as factories, plantations and taxi parks are allowed to operate with strict SOPs.
- Marriage ceremonies and other functions are allowed to have only 20 participants
- House parties are suspended.
- Number of persons at funerals should not exceed 20.
- Monthly and weekly markets are suspended for 42 days.
- All public transport from district to district is suspended for 42 by 10th of June.2021, except between Kampala and Wakiso districts.
- Essential and emergency transport is allowed.
- Public transport is allowed within the district.
- Cargo trucks are allowed to carry only two people.
- Bar remains closed.
- All sports are allowed without spectators, the player must-have a PCR test.
- All public places must adhere to the sops, encourage people to work from home, encourage 30% presence of staff to work at one point
- Private cars should have only 3 passengers, should only move within the district, inter district is suspended
- Ambulance, police and military vehicles are allowed to operate normally
- Malls should close by 7pm
- Pharmacy can operate by curfew time.
- Food markets should close by 7pm
- Lodges should operate without bars with strict adherence to the SOPs because drunkards can’t understand sops
- Curfew remains at 9pm to 5:30am
- Boda bodas to operate while carrying only one passenger, and to stop by 6pm.
- All the above directives, except public transport, take immediate effect
