Kampala – 1, June 2021: The daughter and driver of General Katumba Wamala have been killed by unknown assailants. The armed assailants shot at the General’s car.
The shooting took place on Tuesday morning.
Four attackers on motorcycles opened fire at the vehicle at least seven times. Footage from the scene of the crime showed Wamala in his bloodied clothes asking to be taken to the hospital.
The assassination attempt took place in the same suburb where in 2017, gunmen on motorcycles fired at a vehicle carrying Felix Kaweesa, a senior police officer. Kaweesa was killed alongside his bodyguard and driver.
Uganda has seen several unsolved assassinations of high-profile government officials in recent years. Other victims have included the former Arua Municipality MP, Ibrahim Abiriga, among others.
President Museveni speaks.
“The pigs who do not value life shot at Gen. Katumba killed his daughter and driver and injured him. Condolences on the loss of the two Ugandans. I talked to Gen. Katumba twice on the phone. He is being well-managed.”
