Pader – 26, May 2021: Over 60 bags of maize flour (posho) donated as Covid-19 relief food by government of Uganda during lock-down is rotting while in a storage facility.

The district Covid-19 task-force team, health department have both failed to identify the rightful beneficiaries and distribute to them.

During an inspection of the storage unit by the district chairperson, Mr Fearless Obwoya Oyat, several bags of posho were found rotten.

After getting the information, a group of boda members expressed anger and anguish. They say that the person who is responsible for this must either be fined or dismissed from executing his or her job because of abuse of government property.

They added that this issue needs to be “followed by the higher authority”.

However, Kilama Wodacholi, Mayor of Pader Town Council says that they don’t have the authority because “they are at a lower level of leadership”.

He added that Pader has got poor people who cannot afford to buy food, among other essential human needs.

“The district officials are hoarding relief food like they are insane,” he told TND News.

Additionally, the district chairperson says people who are responsible for the donated relief items are “really unkind to human”.

“They should have eaten it instead of letting it rot in the store yet people suffered during the lockdown period,” he angrily said.
