Kampala – 18, March 2021: Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli has died of “heart complications” according to the country’s Vice President on Wednesday night.
In a televised address, Vice-president Samia Suluhu Hassan announced the death of the President Magufuli.
She also said that Magufuli was hospitalized on March 6 at the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute, contradicting first government’s announcement that the “President was well and busy”.
Many Tanzanians, including opposition leaders had “demanded” to know the “whereabout of their president” who had not been seen in public for nearly three weeks.

Ugandan leader, President Museveni Yoweri Kaguta has reacted to his “friend’s death”, Tweeting:
“I have, with great sadness, learnt of the death of His Excellency John Pombe Magufuli. He was a pragmatic leader who believed in and worked for the economic empowerment of East Africans. We join Tanzania in mourning the passing of a great son of Africa. May his soul rest in peace.”
In coming days, Vice-president Samia Suluhu Hassan will be sworn in as the new President, becoming the first female President in the history of East Africa.
