Lira – 5, March 2021: Constant power wrangles among few Lango cultural leaders continue to worry natives. The wrangle is getting closer to a decade.

The most prominent wrangle is between former Awitim, Dr. Eng. Moses Micheal Odongo Okune and his former boss, Mzee Yosam Odur Ebii.

Dr. Okune’s camp often say Mzee Yosam is the ex paramount chief of Lango, while Mzee Yosam’s supporters and aides say the elder is still a legitimate Won Nyaci.

The wrangle ended in court years ago, and the court came out with its verdict, which verdict many in Lango have ‘failed to understand’, to date.

While Eng. Odongo Okune demands over shs700m from Mzee Yosam Odur following a court verdict, the latter’s rivals have always quashed it. No payment has been made.

According to Radio QFM94.3 who’s TND News’ media partner, the head of Ngurapuc clan, Mr Naptal Oyuru has urged clan leaders of Lango to shun the office of Paramount Chief.

He says the office is “irrelevant and useless”. Mr Oyuru also says the office is not helping the people of Lango and those fighting for the office don’t have Lango at heart.

Recently, Dr. Eng. Odongo Okune, through his ministers wrote to the government, presseruing the regime to recognize him as the legitimate Won Nyaci. Government is yet to respond.

Both Eng. Odongo and Mzee Yosam are heads of Tekwaro Lango and Lango Cultural Foundation, respectively. Both claim majority of support from over 150 clans (leaders) in Lango.
