Under Jimmy James Micheal Akena, the Lira City East Division MP-elect, UPC, who’s also embroiled in court issues and power fights with Mr Peter Walubiri faction, is doing ‘well politically’ in Lango and Teso.
Lira – 26, January 2021: The Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) party continues to dominate in Lango sub-region as local government elections continue.
Lango sub-region is the home to UPC’s founding father and former president, Dr Apollo Milton Obote. Until his death in 2005, the sub-region was having many ‘Ayu-ayu’ supporters than neighbouring Acholi and Teso.
In Lango, both UPC and NRM share political dominance, with FDC ever struggling during the elections period to have a candidate competing against rival parties. This justifies why, in the 11th Parliament, FDC will only have two MPs from Lango: Okot Junior Bitek (Amolatar) and Hon. Cecelia Atim Ogwal (Dokolo Woman).

In the LC5 elections conducted last week, UPC won in Alebtong, Amolatar, Otuke, Kwania, Apac. She lost in Lira, Dokolo and Oyam.
