Bobi Wine has rejected the outcome of the elections, saying his party, National Unity Platform, would go to Court to challenge the results announced by Justice Byabakama.
Kampala – 25, January 2021: High Court in Kampala on Monday ordered security forces to vacate the home of Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert aka Bobi Wine fifteen days after he was placed under house arrest.
Bobi Wine, who has lost the presidency to incumbent Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in the January 14 presidential and parliamentary elections, has not been allowed to leave his home in Magere, Wakiso district.
Although government or security [UPDF] spokesperson Brig. Flavia Bwekwaso did not issue a public statement to reveal why Bobi Wine was under security forces’ watch, the unofficial statement was that ‘he was planning to mobilise his supporters to protest election’s outcome’.
Bobi Wine has on many occasions said his supporters are peaceful people who are always provoked by security forces to tarnish their name.
On Saturday 16 January, the electoral commission (EC) chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi declared candidate Museveni president-elect with 58.6% and Bobi Wine came second with 34.8%.
Bobi Wine has strongly rejected the outcome of the elections, saying his party, National Unity Platform (NUP), would go to Court to challenge the results announced by Justice Byabakama.

Mr Museveni has got his sixth term as president, extending his presidency to 40 years by 2026. His reelection was marred by violence, threats and deaths of the opposition and their supporters.
Over 50 opposition supporters died following the violent engagements between security forces and them on 18 and 19 of November 2020.
Addressing the country days after the killings, president Museveni said his government would compensate families of those who died from the bullets.
High Court
On Monday 25, January 2021, the High Court issued an order directing security forces (the army and police) to vacate Hon. Kyagulanyi’s premises in Magere. The Court adds that the continued confinement of Mr Kyagulanyi at his home is unlawful and unconstitutional.
Uganda Police spokesperson Mr Fred Enaga said: “We will respect the Court order but we will continue to monitor him (Bobi Wine)”.
