Kampala – 20, January 2021: After presidential and parliamentary elections on 14 January, voters across the country continues to elect their leaders to occupy lower offices for the next five years.
While political campaigns (meetings) were dubbed ‘scientific’, voting is never because the electoral commission (EC) doesn’t have any provision for scientific voting.
Precisely, voters go to the polling stations and exercise their voting (constitutional) mandate.
Today, (Wednesday, 20 January), the elections of district chairpersons, city mayors and their councillors are being conducted.
“As UPC, these elections mean a lot to the party as far as building grassroot structures is concerned! We therefore kindly call upon party members, supporters and the entire electorate base that where there is a UPC candidate in those designated positions across the country, please vote for them as we continue to relentlessly fight against poverty, disease and ignorance,” UPC spokesperson, Arach Oyat Sharon said at a press conference in Kampala on Wednesday.

“The party also congratulates those who did not make it, for the courage of raising the UPC flag high and beseech them to stay focused and continue mobilizing for the party. The party would in a special way like to appreciate the electorates for having entrusted UPC candidates with MP positions wherever the party won. We call for the same in today’s elections,” she added.

As eligible Ugandans, the party asks voters to cast their votes in the ongoing elections of LC5, mayors and councillors, further emphasising that the “party calls upon them (voters) to vote for UPC fielded candidates across the country and in the subsequent elections of municipal/division mayors and their councilors due on Monday 25th January 2021, while observing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)”.
By observing SOPs, Arach noted it is a bid to stop the spread of Covid-19.
