Last year (2019), Lira Regional Referral Hospital registered twenty [20] deliveries.

Lira—25, December 2020: Less than six [6] babies were born at different health facilities within Lira City on Christmas day, writes TND News Regina Lalam.
The health facilities included Lira Regional Referral Hospital and other private health centres.
Lira Regional Referral Hospital recorded five [5] deliveries; three [3] males and two [2] females. Last year (2019) the hospital registered twenty [20] deliveries.
Jenifer Nangira, one midwife who was on duty, said the decrease in the number of deliveries is attributed to Covid-19 pandemic.

“The hospital now allows mothers to deliver from nearby health facilities as a way of avoiding overcrowding,” she says.
Among private health facilities visited were Gift Life Healthcare centre who recorded only one [1] delivery [a baby girl], Charis Health Centre did not record any childbirth.
Some mothers who gave birth last night expressed their happiness as their newborn babies share the same birthday with Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
Hellen Auma, an enrolled nurse, asked mothers to always deliver from health centres, adding that in case of any complication health workers can help them or refer them.
