Museveni grants Bunyoro a public university

Hoima—21, December 2020: In seeking re-election to extend his rule to 40 years, NRM presidential candidate Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has granted Hoima (Bunyoro) a public university.

Mr Museveni directs that the construction should begin.

“Later, I met youth and the NRM leaders in Hoima district where we agreed on a number of issues including: The longs standing request of a Bunyoro Public University, let the construction begin,” he Tweeted, Saturday.

On 17, April 2018, Museveni met a delegation from Bunyoro Kingdom and the president agreed to the establishment of a university in Bunyoro. It was later agreed that it should be established in Kiryandongo district.

In September 2018, Bunyoro MPs officially demanded for a public university and State Minister for Higher Education, John C. Muyingo told them plans were underway to have it done.

Same day, Mr Museveni also flagged off the construction of Hoima town roads.

“These roads will be tarmacked with support from Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) project,” he added.

The NRM candidate is ‘campaigning’ under the slogan “Securing Your Future” ahead of January 14, 2021 presidential and parliamentary elections.

The 2021 presidential race has attracted 11 candidates, three of them are army Generals: Gen Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Lt. Gen. Henry Tumukunde and Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu Greg. The youngest in the race is John Katumba, 24.

Others are Nobert Mao, Nancy Kalembe, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine, Willy Mayambala, Fred Mwesigye and Joseph Kabuleta.
