In Amuru district, NRM top mobilizer says there are over 8,000 NUP supporters, and 94 have already crossed, including 34 FDC supporters.
Amuru—15, December 2020: With only a month left to the 2021 general elections, presidential candidates and their political parties are working towards strengthening grassroots support and representations.
And while nobody can predict who will become the next president of Uganda after January 14, 2021 elections, both presidential candidates: Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of NRM, Kyagulanyi Robert Ssentamu of National Unity Platform (NUP), Patrick Oboi Amuriat (POA) of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and other presidential candidates are all sure of a win for presidency.
However, for a win to be guaranteed, a party or a candidate should have overwhelming supports and people who have decided to cast their votes in his or her favour.
It also involves, for an incumbent, wooing opposition supporters to your side and convincing them to vote for you. The same with opposition candidates, too.
According to a report from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party secretariat in Kamapla, there is a team moving across northern Uganda and other regions to mobilise massive support for their candidate, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
They are targeting opposition supporters, and a disgruntled group wooing them to join the ‘yellow bus’.
In Amuru, the NRM says they have welcomed 94 NUP leaders headed by their chief, Otim Kennedy.
“They want development and clear-headed leadership who appreciates peace, unity for the people of Northern Uganda who suffered for many years,” Mr Patrick Ogwang Obura, one of the mobilisers appointed by NRM secretariat, said.
“Because of Covid-19 we are recieveing them in small numbers while respecting governmnet SOPs. The people of Acholi are voting for development, nothing more,” Mr Obura added.
Like in Nwoya, he says there are 11,000 registered NUP supporters, and “we have so far received 120. All the 11,000 are joining us soon”.
In Amuru district, he says there are 8,000 NUP supporters being received in small numbers; 94 have already crossed, including 34 FDC supporters.
NRM presidential candidate who’s also the president is seeking re-election to extend his administration to 40 years. He is campaigning under the slogan “Securing Your Future”.
