“My first term in Parliament was to create friends with ministries and government agencies who can help my people,” Dokolo North MP, Paul Amoru Omiat.
Dokolo—27, November 2020: Some electorates of Agwata town council in Dokolo district want government to modernise their pot making style in order to be sold internationally.
Agwata town council is located on the western part of the district’s central business headquarters and 27kms away. It is blessed with good clay soil compared to other parts of the country, inhabitants say.
Their concern came during the campaign of Paul Amoru Omiat, the Dokolo North MP, also the vice chairperson Lango Parliamentary Group held in different cells of Agwata town council.
Denis Oming, who makes 40 pots monthly, said if government can equip them with machines for making pots and air bricks, “it will boost standard of our living as we benefit directly from the clay soil.”
Lillian Omeni, another potter, said their business has come to “a standstill due to too much downpour” which has affected where they dig clay from.
Also, Grace Ojwang, another potter, believes that the only person to connect pot makers to government for support is MP Paul Amoru. The latter is seeking re-election on independent ticket after losing NRM primary elections to hold the flag to Ogwal Goli.
She added that their products lost market due to “lack of equipment to modernise them”.
Paul Amoru, in his response to pot markers, said his first term in Parliament was to create friends with ministries and government agencies who can help his people.
However, Amoru counted lots of development brought in Dokolo North during his tenure, citing many other plans that are underway.
He said it will be accomplished when given another chance to Parliament 2021.
