Gashumba: “Banyarwanda are Ugandans, no one chooses their tribe”

The Banyarwanda predicts that tribal discrimination might cause violence, division and disunity in Uganda.

Kampala—26, November 2020: On Wednesday, 25 November 2020, The Council for Banyarwanda in Uganda addressed the media, accusing some Ugandans abroad of spreading “discrimination and hatred against them”.

Mr Frank Gashumba, the Council’s chair says “no one chooses their tribe,” adding “you are born and belong to a certain tribe.”

“It’s not your choice,” he added.

The Banyarwanda are descended from a diverse group of people, who settled in the area through a series of migrations, more than 110 years now.

Mr Gashumba, who said he was born in Uganda (Masaka), announced: “I am a Ugandan.”

He and his aides, fellow Banyarwanda, predict that tribal discrimination might cause violence, division and disunity in Uganda.

He asked Ugandans to come together under one nation and end “violence and acts of discrimination” that might lead to insecurity.

Popular businessman, Gashumba asked government to clarify on the recent deadly protests which has made some to think that they (Banyarwanda) have a hand in it.

He issued this statement at Speke Hotel, Kampala.
