Omoro—23 November 2020: Resumption of market days has caused excitement among Omoro traders, and those coming from other districts in northern Uganda.

In March this year, president Museveni directed that all markets trading in non-food items be closed in a bid to curb spread of Coronavirus. Dozens of traders countrywide were affected and for nearly ten months they were staying at home without work.

With government announcing lifting of lockdown and restrictions, open markets, especially those in up-country towns and districts, remained closed until recently.

A fortnight ago, government lifted the ban, allowing traders to resume businesses with strict adherence to Covid-19 restrictions (SOPs).

In Omoro town council, Opit market has resumed normally on Saturday with dozens of traders and customers from different places transacting business.

As directed by the government (Ministry of Health), social distancing, wearing a mask are paramount in all the public gathering as best ways of preventing Covid19.

TND News’ Omoro town based Correspondent, Ojara Daniel reports that “all the SOPs issued by the government are not being followed in the market”.

Omoro Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Susan Akany, who is also the chairperson district Covid-19 taskforce has directed business people to follow all the SOPs.

Akany says should they fail to do so, the market will be closed, again.

As of Sunday 22 November 2020, Uganda recorded 17,968 infections and 172 deaths. 8,611 people have recovered from the virus since March this year.
