Lira, 9, June 2020: Police in Lira on Monday arrested an elderly man caught selling a local liquor to [mogo-amoga] to a Covid-19 contact.

The contact is one among many quarantined at Lira Compressive School of Nursing and Midwifery [isolation center].

Michael Odongo, the North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson identified the ‘businessman’ as Lawrence Ogwal. Ogwal is a resident of Boroboro parish in Adekokwok sub-county, Lira district.

Ogwal was intercepted on spot by security personnel guarding the quarantine center while selling “mogo amoga”, a local brew to a Covid-19 contact in the afternoon hours.

This time he was not taken into a police custody but rather straight into the quarantine center having been into contact with a person placed in quarantine.

Lira isolation center currently has 45 contacts placed under the mandatory 14 days of quarantine.

Dr Edmond Aceka, the assistant District Health Officer for Lira has confirmed the numbers to TND News.

Last week, Lira DHO Dr Buchan Ocen warned that those quarantined were not observing social distancing and said this would mean doom in case one of them tests positive for Covid-19.
