Kampala—31, May 2020: On Saturday, the Ministry of Health confirmed 84 new virus cases, the highest recorded in a single day since March.
Out of 84 new cases, the Ministry says 52 are truck drivers; 50 arrived from South Sudan via Elegu, while 2 arrived from Kenya via Busia.
It adds that 32 of the new confirmed cases are contacts to previously confirmed cases. “All were under quarantine at the time of test.”
Also, 51 positive foreign truck drivers were handed over to their country of origin. Total confirmed Covid-19 cases for Uganda are now 413.
To date, Uganda has a total of 72 recoveries
In a statement, the Ministry said: 1,477 samples were tested on Saturday from Points of Entry, 358 samples were from alerts and contacts
1,835 samples were tested today.
On Friday, Uganda tested 1,928 virus samples and only 12 were confirmed positive. Five new cases were truck drivers who arrived from South Sudan via Elegu and seven cases were contacts to previously confirmed cases. “All were under quarantine at the time of test.”
The Ministry says on Friday that 25 positive foreign truck drivers were handed over to their country of origin.

Less than a month after launching #TONSEMBERERA, loosely translated as “Keep Your Distance” campaign, the Ministry of Health has introduced another campaign to protect Covid-19 patients.
Briefly, Tonsemberera, still ongoing demands every Ugandan to keep a four meter distance whenever in a public place as a way to control mass virus spread and infections.
“DON’T DISCRIMINATE COVID-19 SURVIVORS, THEY ARE NOT A HEALTH RISK” is an additional campaign seeking to educate Ugandans to treat virus survivors as part of “us” without subjecting them to stigma.
