Oyam man tests positive for coronavirus, in a stable condition

Kampala—25, May 2020: Uganda has confirmed it has 212 COVID-19 total cases by Sunday, 24 May.

Announcing the Sunday’s virus results on Monday morning, Ministry of Health confirmed 14 new COVID-19 cases.

The Ministry says all new cases are contacts to previously confirmed truck drivers, adding that all contacts were under quarantine at the time of test.

“Five [5] positive foreign truck drivers (all Tanzanians) were handed over to their country of origin,” further statement shows.

The Ministry tested 655 samples from Points of Entry on Sunday whilst 1,084 were samples from community and contacts.

Total samples tested on Sunday stood at 1,739.

Confirmed cases

Dr Henry G Mwebesa, Director General Health Services, in a press statement dated 24, May 2020 identified the cases as below.

1. Five (5) of the confirmed cases: 2 males and 3 females who are residents of Adjumani district and are contacts of previously confirmed truck drivers.
2. Four (4) of the confirmed cases are Ugandans female who are residents of Kumi district and contacts of previously confirmed truck drivers.
3. Two (2) of the confirmed cases: 1 male and 1 female, residents of Wakiso district and are contacts of previously confirmed truck drivers.
4. One (1) of the confirmed cases is a Ugandan male, a resident of Elegu and is a contact to a previously confirmed truck driver.
5. One (1) of the confirmed cases is a Ugandan male, a resident of Arua district and is a contact to a previously confirmed truck driver
6. One (1) of the confirmed cases is a Ugandan male, a resident of Oyam district and is a contact to a previously confirmed truck driver.

According to Dr Mwebesa there are 161 COVID-19 confirmed cases in 10 Regional Referral Hospitals in the country and all are in stable condition.

“To date, Uganda has registered 68 COVID-19 recoveries and no COVID-19 related death recorded,” Dr Mwebesa added.

New COVID-19 campaign

The Ministry of Health has launched a campaign dubbed #TONSEMBERERA, loosely translated as “Keep Your Distance”. The campaign seeks to sensitize and reminds Ugandans to always obey a 4 meter distance when in public.
