After total confirmed cases’ reduction by a half early this week, Uganda’s virus cases continue to rise every day.
Following President Museveni’s directive to the Ministry of Health that foreign truck drivers are counted off from Uganda’s case count, total cases stood at 145 on Wednesday. On Thursday, the Ministry confirmed 15 new cases—pushing the total to 160.
On Friday evening, the Ministry confirmed 15 new COVID-19 cases confirmed—pushing the total cases to 175.
According to the Ministry, 12 new cases are truck drivers: 10 arrived via Elegu, 2 arrived via Busia and Malaba respectively while 3 cases are contacts to previously confirmed truck drivers.
All contacts were under quarantine at the time of test, Ministry’s statement adds.
So far, 23 positive foreign truck drivers are handed over to their country of origin
1,248 samples from the Point of Entry were tested on Friday, the Ministry says it also tested 858 samples from community and contacts.
Total samples tested on Friday stood at 2,106.
The Ministry further says 68 people have recovered from the virus. Uganda is yet to register any COVID-19 related death cases.
