The country’s total confirmed COVID-19 cases are now 260 and 63 recoveries. No COVID-19 related death confirmed up to date, a data from the Ministry of Health shows.

Daily, the country is registering positive cases, especially from truck drivers. Community samples continue to test negative—this is an enormous success in Uganda’s fight against the pandemic.

Addressing the nation for the 14th times, President Museveni said: “Corona feels lonely and does well when it has company like diabetes, blood pressure, cancer, HIV, and others. When sick people come, our people start with the core morbidities.”

After his address that lasted for almost 2 hours, Ministry of Health confirmed 12 new COVID-19 cases from 1,743 samples of truck drivers. All fresh cases are Ugandans.

It adds that Uganda returned 32 foreign truck drivers who tested positive back to their respective countries.

Last week, President Museveni directed that truck drivers should be tested from a Point of Entries and they should only be allowed into the country after their results are negative.

The Ministry of Health has launched a new campaigned aimed at sensitising Ugandans to stay safe while following guidelines it issued.

Tonsemberera, loosely translated as “Keep Your Distance” demands that every person must keep a four meter distance while in public.

This health and social campaign ends in late June [next month].
