The Pearl of Africa’s coronavirus cases continues to rise each day. Last week, the Ministry of Health confirmed no less than 10 positive cases for a single day.
The highest figures confirmed were 43 on Friday and it became the country’s highest score since it confirmed the first case in March.
In preceding days, Wednesday and Thursday, the Ministry confirmed 13 and 21 cases. On Saturday, it confirmed 24 positive cases.
With a lot of anxiety amongst Ugandans these days, some questioned why Sunday results were not announced.
The Ministry of Health on Monday responded by saying it was because of “division” at the Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) in Entebbe.
“Uganda truck drivers who test positive will be evacuated directly to hospitals. Samples had to be divided between UVRI and @UNHLS1 for quick turnaround time. Testing at NHLS started at 7:30pm last evening. Results will be communicated shortly. Please disregard the fake post,” Ministry of Health on not announcing Sunday results.
On Sunday night, there was a fake tweet ‘by the Ministry’ showing that 105 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed. The ministry denied it in the above statement.
Fresh cases
“21 new cases confirmed from 1,071 samples from various Points of Entry. All cases are Ugandan nationals from Elegu, Mutukula, and Malaba points. All 253 community samples are negative for COVID-19,” the Ministry confirmed on Monday.
There are now 248 total confirmed cases in Uganda with zero death.
