Each day, Uganda’s coronavirus cases surge. This week alone, it confirmed nearly 100 fresh cases from samples of truck drivers.
Briefly, Ministry of Health on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday confirmed 13, 21 and 43 fresh cases, respectively.

On Saturday night, 16 May 2020, the Ministry confirmed 24 new COVID-19 cases from 2,044 samples of truck drivers.
This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country to 227.
According to the Ministry, all 554 community samples tested negative for COVID-19.
“Total samples tested today are 2,044. Out of these, 115 samples were tested at Mutukula while 1,375 tested at Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI).”
Uganda has 63 recoveries and zero death.
The new cases breakdown: At Elegu: 3 Ugandans, 2 Kenyans. At Mutukula: 6 Tanzanians, 1 Ugandans at Malaba: 12 Kenyans.
Meanwhile, President Museveni has ordered that truck drivers must only be allowed to enter Uganda after their results are confirmed. All new cases in Uganda are from truck drivers.
Tonsemberera [Keep Your Distance] campaign
The Ministry of Health has introduced a campaign called Tonsemberera, loosely translated as “Keep Your Distance”. The campaign demands that all Ugandans must keep a social distance of 4 meters whenever they are in public places.
According to the Ministry, this campaign will help the country fight mass infection and widespread of the virus in the community.
