Two truck drivers out of thirteen who tested positive for coronavirus disease on Wednesday have been intercepted at Kamdini Town Council in Oyam district.
They were from South Sudan via Elegu border where their samples were also taken from.
The patients have been driven to Lira regional referral hospital for management [isolation] – sources told TND News.
A team of health experts headed by the Oyam District Health Officer, Dr Thomas Malinga reportedly arrived in Kamdini and evacuated the patients to Lira hospital.
Sources also told this publication that these truck drivers, one driving registration number UAU 782U/USD911Q and another one UAQ 984Z/UAB808X were carrying one and two passengers respectively.
The trucks were impounded at Kamdini Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) check point.
The drivers have been identified as Serunkuma George and Mayanja Nickson. Their passengers have also been identified as Barigye Sam; James Alur and Anthony Michael, 30 years old.
Last month, President Museveni directed that all cargo trucks should have only one person, the driver. This directive has since been flouted by some drivers.
