A medical officer attached to Moroto Regional Referral Hospital was on Friday afternoon shot dead by suspected Karimojong cattle keepers.

Dr Otim Benson who hails from Otuke district, Lango sub-region according to the Abim Resident District Commissioner [RDC], was traveling to Lango to check on his family.

He was riding a motorcycle, RDC added.

“He was shot dead at Turutuko,” RDC Hasahaka said during the interview, adding that: “I got in touch with the 3rd Division Army Commander Brigadier Balikudembe Joseph and the UPDF are combing the area.”

Many have praised the deceased, calling his death, “untimely and sad”. Others have called for government’s response.

Moses Hosea Odongo, using Facebook, wrote: “So sad and painful OB. May the good Lord Rest your soul in everlasting peace and comfort the bereaved family, relatives and friends. Government should wake up to disarm these merciless warriors.”

Onyango Patrick, says: “Government should help get rid of guns in Karamoja otherwise some of us who border these people have suffered imagine shooting an innocent man riding a motorcycle even if he is passing through your area. God have mercy.”

Stepeh Oringa: “RIP my great OB. Life has never been fair to you, after suffering LRA abduction and again being killed brutally. God has a purpose for this.”
