Alebtong district is still free from COVID-19, the District Health Officer Dr Tonny Odung unequivocally tells TND News.
The DHO adds that the samples earlier taken from three persons who were isolated at Oteno quarantine center all returned negative. The samples were taken to Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) in Entebbe
Speaking on Friday during a task force meeting, Dr Odung said the three have since been discharged. He however says they will have to continue with self-Isolation for seven more days.
“The patient who showed COVID-19 alike symptoms was found to be suffering from another sickness. We urged the community not to panic because all is well,” he added.
“As I speak right now our quarantine center in Oteno is free because the three have been allowed to go home because their results are negative,” Dr. Odung reported to the district task force. The meeting was chaired by the Resident District Commissioner, Mrs Josephine Omara Olili.
Dr Odung says he has received a report of a woman who came from Malaba and is moving around, buying oranges from the community.
According to the DHO, the businesswoman is frail and looks sickly.
Another one, he reveals, is a soldier in Abia who returned from Kenya and the community is suspicious about him since Kenya is a hot spot for COVID- 19 in the East African region.
“My medical team always respond on time. I will drive to the two points to take samples from both the woman and the soldier so it can be taken to UVRI Entebbe,” he told TND News.
