The Agago District Police Commander [DPC], SP Samson Lubega has returned to his workstation after taking less than 4 days in Police custody.
Mr Lubega was arrested on Sunday [a week ago] in Agago Town Council and driven to Gulu Central Police station.
Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Aswa Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed to TND News Lubega’s arrest the following day, on Monday. “It’s true he has been arrested in line with compromising the President’s directive on social gatherings,” he said, then. “We have him in custody in Gulu,” he added.
According to Okema, detectives from Regional Police Standards Unit [RPSU] were dispatched to Agago district on a fact-finding mission. “Their findings will help us in taking appropriate decision,” Mr Okema revealed.
Findings
In a phone interview with this contemporary digital newspaper on Monday evening, Okema confirmed that Mr Lubega is back to work.
“He has returned to Agago district as a DPC as he awaits a report from Police Professional Standards Unit in Kampala,” Mr Okema said.
Flashback of his ‘crime’
It is alleged that the DPC protected a businessman who returned from the United Kingdom via Dubai on 17 April, 2020.
As mandated, Francis Onek, a resident of Patongo Town Council was requested by the COVID-19 District Task Force to be quarantined for 14 days.
According to the district leaders, Mr Onek refused to be quarantined and went into ‘hiding’.
Later, the District Task Force [DTF] realised that the DPC had given the COVID-19 suspect a permission to organise a party of more than 25 people.
In that party, the DPC was one of the ‘cheerful’ attendees.
