Bishop of Lira Diocese challenges leaders fighting COVID-19 to be Christ-like

(Last Updated On: 3 May 2020)

The Bishop of Lira Catholic Diocese, the Rt. Rev Sanctus Lino Wanok has challenged leaders in the frontline fight against COVID -19 both in the political and medical sector to work towards giving life to its fullest rather than being money driven.

He says emphasis should be put on giving life to the nation as opposed to financially exploiting the citizenry.

Bishop Wanok lashed out at the political leaders whose interests are always on the money at the expense of the suffering people. “You can be a political leader, how are you keeping the people? If you are receiving the money and not serving the people, you are completely off sight,” said Wanok

“Today even those in the frontline fight against Coronavirus; the doctors, the medical people, these are now the shepherds who are fighting in the frontline. They are chosen by Christ to be his image. How are you doing it, are you doing it because of money or to give life to its fullest?”

Bishop Sanctus Lino Wanok was giving his Homily in the Fourth Sunday of Easter at a mass broadcast live on the Lira Diocese-owned Radio Wa.

The Catholic Church World over celebrates this day as the feast of Jesus the Good Shepherd who knows his sheep and whose sheep also know him.

According to Wanok, the frontline health workers including Doctors and all medical staff on the fight against Coronavirus are “the Shepherds on the frontline”.

He said “this is time we should examine ourselves and our services to the nation.”

“This is the period Jesus Christ is looking for those who will imitate him,” Rt. Rev Bishop added.

He also took a swipe at some religious leaders who are overloading Christians with a lot of monetary demands to the extent that the sheep cannot breathe and are becoming poorer to the extent that they cannot live.
