Alebtong: Three quarantined with suspected COVID-19 signs and symptoms

A young man has been isolated in Alebtong district after showing signs and symptoms similar to that of novel coronavirus, Dr Tonny Odung, the District Health Officer confirms.

TND News understands that the male youth who is  a resident of Awaaping in Abako sub-county, started feeling unwell on Friday and efforts were made to have him taken to a health facility at night after his sickness had intensified.

He was put on a boda-boda motorcycle with the help of his brother and the three soon made to Haleluya Clinic, a private local clinic in Aloi.

But upon arrival, nurses at the facility declined to admit nor treat the patient who was coughing uncontrollably and they advised that he should be checked for COVID-19.

They soon contacted the district authorities including the DHO, Dr Tonny Odung who sent an ambulance and transported the three to an isolation center in Oteno.

Dr Tonny Odung says they will take samples from the patient, his brother and the boda man who accompanied him and have it tested for COVID-19.

According to WHO, the most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, dry cough, including fatigue. Some patients may have pains, nasal congestion, sore throat or diarrhoea. 

These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some people become infected but only have very mild symptoms. Most people (about 80 percent) recover from the disease without needing hospital treatment.

Around 1 out of every 5 people who gets COVID-19 becomes seriously ill and develop difficulty in breathing. Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like high blood pressure, heart and lung problems, diabetes, or cancer, are at higher risk of developing a serious illness and sometimes it lead to death.

However, anyone can catch COVID-19 and become seriously ill. Even people with very mild symptoms of COVID-19 can transmit the virus. People of all ages who experience fever, cough, and difficulty breathing should seek medical attention, immediately.

Uganda on Friday night registered two new cases of coronavirus, after a Uganda national from Rakai and a Kenyan truck driver both tested positive for COVID-19.

The total confirmed cases is now at 85, 52 recoveries with no death
