Dokolo – Married women are advised to undertake small scale businesses and art-and-craft to avoid “rampant” divorces today.
Cabin Ogwang, the Dokolo District coordinator, Jamlife Helpers Global Limited, an NGO that supports locals toward starting businesses, revealed this in a sensitization meeting at Apewotneki primary school in Adeknino sub country and Kangai sub country headquarters respectively.
She said overwhelming cases of divorce among couples, are rising from misunderstanding in failure to buy scholastic materials for children (pupils) and feeding family members.
Ogwang advised the voiceless women to practice small scale business and art and craft if they are to enjoy couple’s life.
Vicky Akello, a responsible mother from Awelo parish in Adeknino sub country narrated challenges that non businesswomen face which, according to her, “can lead to divorce.”
Scovia Peter Okello of Kangai sub country said “endless poverty in families is being caused by couples who are not serious in business and take alcohol as their first priority rather than developmental issues.”
Daniel Okwany Kizza, the LC3 Kangai sub county said when the skills are put to use, it will raise the standard of living and make campaigns easy as voters would not demand anything because they would be getting a lot of money from business.
Jaspher Okello, the northern regional coordinator, Jamalife Helpers Global Limited said their aim is to boost livelihood standard through imparting business skills and supporting members.
Among the business skill training imparted on locals include: Liquid soap making, Bakery, Fish farming, Piggery, Poultry, among others.
Jamalife Helpers Global Limited is a German NGO that has worked in Uganda for two years.
