Ms. Quinto Apiyo is under the custody of Police in Gulu following her arrest for alleged embezzlement.
The Gulu district Education Officer in-charge of special allegedly embezzled Uganda shillings 18 million meant for facilitating special orientations training of special Olympics.
Ms. Apiyo was arrested on Saturday after being reported by Ms. Bamwidukire Genevive, the Country director Special Olympics.
Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa regional Police spokerperson confirmed this development, saying that the case was registered under CRB 479/2019.
Okema added that Apiyo is currently being held at Gulu Central Police pending investigations into the case.
Mr. Okema added that the 18 million was meant to facilitate 23 district officials from Wakiso, Jinja, Kibaale and Gulu districts.
Milton Kato, the Gulu district Chief Administrative Officer in an interview said the case is being handled by the Police, reiterating that Apiyo will also face disciplinary actions once she is brought before Court.
