Gulu district targets to eliminate trachoma by 2020

Gulu district has planned to eliminate trachoma after a number of interventions.

Immunization, continuous monitoring and social mobilization across all the 16 sub-counties in the district have since commenced.

The implementation is to start next month, April beginning with immunization – official says.

The district has eradicated trachoma up to 2.2% from 26.9% in the previous years.

Jane Rose – the district health officer, however called for support and collaboration from both teachers and parents to allow drugs for these neglected diseases be given to children.

“We shall carry immunization together, with vaccination of girls within the ages of 10 years for cancer of the cervix,” she further added.

This is very serious and every persons should allow young girls come for these doses.

 James Omal who is the district vector control officer said the district is realizing a very big progress in controlling and elimination of trachoma through strengthening the existing implementation so far in place, but that there is still a challenge of transport for supervision of the activities.
