Madira Kefa a public health officer at Uganda’s Ministry of Health said the training is to prepare Uganda as a country in response to current Ebola outbreak in the neighbouring DR Congo.

Kefa added that there are ‘so many people crossing the border from Congo and entering into Uganda’ which needs them (health workers) to prepare in advance through training to identify quickly the suspected cases of Ebola, identification and  isolation of suspect cases.

Dr William Onyai, the  district Health Educator Gulu said the Ebola case management training came at the right time as ‘it will make the district to have adequate facilities to manage Ebola’ in case it strike in to the region’.

Lamenting that they are able to make the community aware about Ebola, he says community should report any suspected cases of Ebola soonest.

In addition, Dr Onyai said the district will construct another new isolation ward on top of the one at St Mary’s Hospital Lacor, plus all the necessary equipments to handle the case.

About 40 medical health workers attended the training from different health units across Gulu district.

Recently, no any Ebola positive cases has been registered in Uganda since it heavily got registered in 2005, claiming lives of people, including Dr Mathew Lukwiya.
