Guru-guru sub-county crowned 2019 champions

Guru-guru sub-county in Amuru district was yesterday crowned champions of Kilak South Youth Football Tournament which took four days at Olwal Musaja primary school play grounds.

The tournament was organised by Lawmaker, Olanya Gilbert who’s the Kilak South Member of Parliament.

Guru-guru who was also the hosts, was awarded with a trophy and a bull after emerging the best out of the six sub-counties with 12 points of the five games they played.

Lamogi sub-county came second with the same 12 points but conceded eight goals, more than champions.

However, the winner was also determined based on the number of yellow cards each of the sub-county got of which Guru-guru only got 2 and Lamogi got 5 yellow cards which made them stay second on the table.

Olanya Francis, the team coach of the crowned champions expressed his happiness upon winning this year’s trophy, saying that the win was a result of team spirit and the regular training that the team did, and also that as  hosts team, it would have been so bad if they didn’t win the trophy.

He also assured other sub -counties that the next year’s games will see them train so hard in order for them to retain the trophy.

Ojugu Richard, the chairperson technical committee and game teacher Restore Academy School told our reporter that this year’s tournament was more competitive than last year, with a lot of discipline compared to last 2018 meetings.

“The motive of the game was achieved as all the six sub-counties within  Kilak South turned up for the tournament,” he added.

Also, the Amuru town council girls were again crowned 2019 champions with 12 points.

Olanya Gilbert, the Kilak South constituency Member of Parliament and the funder said the tournament’s aim is to bring youth together and to keep them engaged during the lengthy holidays.

“It keeps them active and healthy. Sports can as well help improve on body health, and as well keep them away from criminal activities when they are on holidays,” Olanya added.
