The Gulu’s Flagship Irrigation Scheme in Awach Paibona has kicked off as with Water Sprinklers’ Tests.
The water scheme which covers a total of 20 acres of land is located on the western bank of River Abera in Ayweri village, Paibona sub-county, Aswa County in Gulu district. It’s also located about 60 kilometers, North-East of Gulu town.
The project funded by the Ministry of Water and Environment, will see the construction of another 15 mini irrigation schemes in the district to transform agriculture in the sub-region of Acholi.
Mansions working at the scheme are building a big generator power house adjacent to a deep suction station from which water will be drawn. The powerhouse and the suction station are
located mid-way between the scheme and the winding river channel.
During the site visit made by the Gulu LC5 chairperson, Martine Ojara Mapenduzi on Wednesday, more than 100 sprinklers had already been installed alongside 30 water control valves to deliver water to hundreds of rotating sprinklers, standing more than five meters above the ground.
The Gulu LC5 chairperson while at the site said he was happy with the progress made by the Ministry of Water and Environment in building the irrigation scheme, adding that the project will improve productivity and agriculture in the district.
The project will benefits the local people who have grouped themselves and have so far planted crops like, tomatoes, cabbages, water melon among others, and just awaiting harvesting it.
