(Last Updated On: 12 January 2019)

Fifty percent of health workers in Gulu district are not attending to their respective duties without credible reasons, this contemporary online newspaper has learnt.

The Gulu district acting Health Officer, Yoweri Idiba explains.

“Out of the 50 percent of the health workers who misses work, 10% are on leave, 10% off duty, and 10% absent without reasons, 20% absent on request, and 50% concentrate on work.”

Idiba’s concern came just two days after the official visit of the State Minister for Health in charge of primary health care, Dr.Joyce Kaducu to Gulu district.

The acting DHO says the overall attendance of his staffs was a subject of questions by the minister.

He reveals that he ‘lost what to say’ after being tasked to explain on behalf of his staffs.

Milton Kato, the Chief Administrative Officer of Gulu district, says the attitudes of some health workers towards their duties need to be changed.

Mr. CAO added that urgent improvement is much needed at least up to 65%.

On Sunday last week, Maj. Santos Okot Lapolo, the Gulu Resident District Commissioner of was very furious after two health departments at Gulu regional referral hospital, and Cwero Health Center III were opened late.
